Joseph R. Klinicki helps companies develop and secure their intellectual property (“IP”) rights. He has experience in every stage of the patent life cycle. From initial strategic counseling to enforcement and post-grant proceedings, Joe appreciates how IP can be used to advance your business goals.
Joe’s passionate approach to learning, particularly his enthusiastic interest in developing technologies, has resulted in his extensive understanding of multiple technological areas. For example, Joe is well-versed in telecommunications systems (particularly LTE, 5G, and standards mapping), computer networking, artificial intelligence, electronics, cloud computing, data security/cryptography, and computer software.
His patent procurement practice includes global portfolio managing responsibilities that have garnered him substantial interaction with the USPTO and all major foreign patent offices. He leverages this understanding of the global state of IP law to advance his clients’ business interests.
“One of the most important aspects of representing a corporation,” Joe notes, “is fully understanding the client’s business and technology before attempting to devise a strategy.” In addition to assisting businesses protect their IP rights, Joe’s practice also includes transactional support related to IP transfers and licensing.
More recently, Joe’s practice has expanded to litigation. A naturally zealous person, Joe prides himself on being a strong advocate for his clients. However, he never loses sight of the need to handle disputes efficiently and in a cost-effective manner. Joe has represented IP property owners both as plaintiffs and as defendants accused of infringement and he understands the strategic advantages and potential risks both sides face.
